Mother cats are the most amazing creatures, they never cease to amaze me with their courage and dedication.

Imagine living on the streets, hungry and alone… and pregnant at the same time!

SOPHIA 1

This poor calico cat, Sophia, turned up at Here Kitty Kitty Rescue, an Indianan animal shelter, with a lot of things on her plate. A new litter of kittens, a new home, and a new illness.

“We had her about 3 days when she got a horrible upper respiratory infection. She was so congested in her head that she refused to eat,” said the rescue shelter.

After trying and failing to feed Sophia with a syringe, the vet decided that the best option was to use a feeding tube to give her unborn babies the nutrients they needed.

The tube was placed and Sophia wore a little red sweater to help keep it in place. She was fed through the tube 5-6 times per day.

Slowly, her cold began to get better, but she still wouldn’t eat even though she was clearly hungry.

Luckily she soon went into labour and four healthy kittens were brought into this world.

Sophia spent all night feeding her babies, who were all boys, and like all newborn kittens their eyes were yet to open.

Before long Sophia began eating on her own and soon regained her health with no signs of infection. Her four babies were healthy and happy by her side.

Sophia has now been adopted into a loving family were she gets all the attention she needs.

What an amazing mother cat whose only concern was to care for her babies.
