I have just heard the sad news that Colonel Meow, one of the Internet’s most famous cats and a Guinness World Records-holder, has died. He was two years old.

He shot to fame when his owner started posting pictures of him on Facebook and Instagram, then in 2013, Meow made it  into the Guinness World Records for having the longest fur.

Anne Marie Avey, Meow’s owner, made an announcement on Facebook Thursday evening:

“Colonel Meow passed away yesterday evening. I will post more about the details when I’ve had a few days to grieve,” the message reads. “Thank you so much for your understanding, Minions. Your love and support has meant the world to us both.”

He will truly missed by all of his fans.
