21 Beautiful Photos Capturing the Unique Personalities of Japan’s Stray Cats
Masayuki Oki is not your run of the mill photographer. When roaming the streets of Tokyo with his camera, he spends his time capturing photos of stray cats.
He explains: “I was taking a break in the park near my office. I got fascinated by one cat there, and I started photographing all the felines in that park. Then, I decided to post my pictures on Instagram and 7 years later, I still love doing this.”
And quite rightly so, he has amassed an incredible 199k followers on his Instagram account. His feline subjects vary, every day he posts pictures of streetwise kitties having fun, getting involved in a fight, chilling out and sometimes finding two cats sharing a moment together.
“I’m not very good at photos other than cats,” he joked. “I also think that cats are simply very photogenic. Until I held the camera, I had the stereotype that cats were cool, sleeping all day long, and didn’t care about their surroundings.” Masayuki told Bored Panda.
“I realized these cats had complex emotions, expressions, and gestures. I also discovered that cats have complex relationships just like humans, and that each cat has their own identity.” He added.
But it’s not just Tokyo where Masayuki wanders the streets, he’s been to Taiwan, Hong Kong and Istanbul, purely to take photographs of cats.
