Introducing Kefir!

This huge Maine Coon kitty lives with Yuliya Minina in Stary Oskol, Russia. When he was just a year and 9 months old, he already weighed a staggering 27 lbs.

This beautiful huge cat is now heading towards three years old, which is when some Maine Coons stop growing. In fact his 2nd birthday was on March 3, 2022. However they can keep growing a while longer so it's possible that Kefir has still got some growing to do!

Yulia spotted Kefir at a cattery and fell in love with his beautiful white fur.

She knew he was the cat for her - even though she didn't know how big he was going to get!

She chose the name Kefir because it means dairy drink and she feels it describes his coat purr-fectly.

As soon as they were home Kefir refused to eat dry cat food, so she only feeds him meat and natural feed.

She loves having this big kitty in her life but says one of the drawbacks is the amount of fur that he leaves all over the house.

But he has truly become part of the family and will often sit by the table with them at dinner time.

“It’s funny how others react when they see our cat because he is huge. Many people think that he’s a dog at first.”

She added that she was given a harness and leash recently and has been taking him out for walks.

"It looks especially funny when I walk with him. We love to walk with him! Therefore, we are not planning to get a dog yet … Kefir replaces both a dog and a cat for us."

Yuliya added that Kefir has developed a habit of jumping on her at night when she sleeps.

“He didn’t do that when he was smaller and it wouldn’t be that inconvenient, but now he has become so very big and heavy. It’s not that easy to sleep like that.”

“But in general, this is a super-smart cat. He can weirdly feel the general mood in the house. Kefir doesn’t meow, doesn’t yell, and doesn’t harm the furniture. A truly perfect cat.”

Yuliya adds that although he is large and you might think that he would be scary because of his size, he is, in fact, very modest and affectionate!

Kefir likes to have dinner with Yuliya's family and gets offended if she tries to keep him away from the kitchen table!

He even has his own chair to sit with them at meal time.

We caught up with Yuliya recently for the video below and learnt that Kefir has really taken over their home quite a bit as he has grown.

He climbs all over the kitchen shelves when she is cooking.

And even sprawls across the TV...
