Cops Build Cozy ‘Condo’ For A Friendly Stray Cat
Meet SWAT cat! She’s the unofficial mascot of the Boston Police Department’s SWAT team headquarters.
Four years ago, this sweet-natured calico kitty showed up and decided to stay. Naturally the officers gave her a name that suited her surroundings and it didn’t take long for her to win a place in their hearts. She was always there to greet them when they returned from a call and would cozy up beside them when they sat outside.
This cat loving team have made sure she’s stayed healthy and safe but they have never managed to persuade her to go inside. “The men and women of the BPD SWAT Team have tried numerous tactics over the years to convince her to come in from the elements but she is set in her ways,” a department spokesperson said.
She had been provided with a variety of shelters in the past, but the team decided it was time for SWAT Cat to have a home that was really special so they built her an amazing condo.

“Officer Jamie Pietroski, a 15-year veteran of the Boston Police Department, stayed late after work for several nights painstakingly preparing Swat Cat’s new home,” explains the department. “The condo features a spacious studio interior layout, a large deck for outdoor dining and glass sliding doors offering panoramic city views.”
He made the perfect home for this much loved kitty, and when she saw it she rubbed against the corners and edges of her new home and claimed it as her own.
The team would love to see SWAT Cat put her free-spirited days as a stray behind her, and opt instead for the comfort and security of domestic life inside with the team, but they are happy to know that the door for her is always open.

In the meantime, it’s nice to know she’ll be cozy in a cat condo built especially for her.
