Meet Sandman, a tiny grey kitten that was found alone and abandoned in a garage.
Having already lost his entire family, he faced the grim reality of being left to fend for himself, with little hope for survival.
But despite being the sole survivor of his litter and severely underweight, he never gave up.
Volunteers from Coastal Bend Cat Rescue (CBCR) took him under their care and provided him with the support and attention he needed to thrive.
This teeny kitten was malnourished and underweight, he was the size of a 1-week-old newborn despite being twice that age.
His life was hanging by a thread!
Dorella, a CBCR officer, took on the challenge of caring for Sandman and was amazed by his strength and determination.
"He was dehydrated and his body score was very poor. I didn't think he could survive,"shared Dorella on social media.
"We had to bring his body temperature up slowly, meaning hourly feedings of very small increments."
It took two days of careful attention to bring him back from the brink, and another two weeks for him to reach a healthy weight.
Sandman was given a snuggle toy with a heartbeat to keep him company, and he immediately took to it.
Once he was strong enough to venture out of his nest, he was transferred to a foster home with a resident cat named Taro.
Taro welcomed Sandman with open paws and helped him learn all the essential kitten skills.
Despite his small size, he packs a big personality and holds his own when he wrestles with Taro.
“Sandman seems to think he is the same size as his stand-in brother. He definitely has a big purrsonality!” Said the rescue team.
Thanks to Taro, his fosters and his rescuers, Sandman graduated being a kitten with the highest marks and was ready to get a place of his own.
He was no longer a sickly bottle baby, but a handsome young fella who found his forever humans in no time!
To his rescuers, Sandman remains the poster kitten for why they do what they do.
“Why do we spend countless hours caring for the most vulnerable? Why do we spend sleepless nights bottle-feeding these tiny orphaned babies?"
"The answer is simple. Because of kittens like Sandman. Because someone has to help," they conclude.
Sandman is a true fighter who never gave up, and with the help of CBCR and Taro, he has a bright future in his new forever home.
