Nikki Martinez is a kitten foster mom specializing in caring for neonatal & critical care kitties.
She was asked to foster a very hissy, feral kitten and because of her experience she knew she was up for the challenge.
The little black and white kitten needed to be socialized as she had never been around people before, Nikki knew that once she had broken down the barrier she would have a lovely kitten in her care.
At first the little cutie, now named Raggedy Ann, wanted nothing to do with her so she created a space that would keep her cosy and make her feel secure.
The next day Nikki let her presence be felt and spoke to her often so she would get use to her voice.
Little Raggedy was still very grumpy and would hide herself in the blankets.
After a few days Nikki was able to touch her and she even heard a few purrs – progress was being made.
Then it was time for a bath. When she first arrived at her foster home she was very dirty and her hair was matted, so it was important to bathe her and it would also be another step to socializing her.
This was something Nikki had done many times before and, as a rescue mom, she’s a bit of an expert in giving kittens a bath with proper cat shampoo.
After the bath, which was really needed as the water was extremely dirt afterwards, it was time for a good brushing, and Nikki discovered that she loved being brushed and while purring started to move closer to her foster mum.
Things were really moving forward now thought Nikki as Raggedy climbed onto her lap.
