We never like to think about it the day when our precious cats cross over the rainbow bridge. This must surely be the worst part of having a pet in your family.

Of course it's never easy to mourn the passing of a loved one, but what happens when the owner passes before their pet?

MacKenzie the grumpy cat had lived with her humans for more than 13 years when the unthinkable happened – this is her story.

Before Angela's grandfather passed away, he had expressed how worried he was about what would happen to his cat MacKenzie.

This grumpy cat had lived with Angela's grandparents for more than 13 years, she had been a big part of their lives and they thought the world of her.

He needn't of worried because Angela stepped up and decided to look after this so-called grumpy cat – it's reassuring to know that she would be in good hands.

MacKenzie is quite a chatty kitty and her voice is somewhat gravelly and quite different to other kitties' meows.

This is why many people thought she was always upset or was just a grumpy cat, when in fact it was her way of expressing her love.

Angela says that growling is her love language!

She loved her new life with Angela and likewise Angela enjoyed MacKenzie's company.

They would often go on adventures and Angela began posting videos of MacKenzie on TikTok.

She noticed that she was getting a lot of comments from people saying that they were in the same situation as her.

When their grandparents passed away their pets were often put in a shelter. Some explained that they had also adopted their grandparents pets and others said how much they now missed these animals.

All of this had made Angela realize that although there were a lot of great organizations and shelters out there, there wasn't a service that allowed you to plan a home for your pet after you had passed.

So she decided to set up "My Grandfather's Cat" where she helps elderly people find second forever homes for their pets before they move into retirement homes or pass away.

So far she has helped over 45 animals and was finding her work truly rewarding - and that when she met a chonky kitty named Mr. Bore.

She had an instant bond with this lovable kitty and when his adoption fell through she decided that the best place for him was to live with her and MacKenzie.

She now calls him Mr. Bo and he is completely adorable, loves to cuddle and has a lot of love to give.

Angela says: "A love that a senior cat can give you is unmatched and while all cats of any age deserve to be adopted and have loving homes, senior cats get overlooked and there's no reason to."

A big thank you to Angela for creating this service to help senior kitties find their next forever home.
