Some rescue stories begin with a whimper, others with a battle cry.

The tale of Snickers and Reeses falls somewhere in between—two tiny kittens who arrived at their second chance looking like they'd fought every flea in existence and lived to tell the tale.

reeses 1

Snickers came first, a solitary little soul delivered into Lori's experienced foster care without fanfare or flourish. No ribbon adorned his neck, no adoption tag hung from his collar.

What he did have was an army of fleas covering every inch of his small body. His first bath at the shelter told a harrowing story—the water ran red with the blood those parasites had stolen from him.

Shelter staff discovered maggots in his mouth during cleaning, though mercifully, no injury lay beneath.

An old wound marked his shoulder, hidden under fur that would soon grow into magnificent floof.

Nobody could say what horrors this tiny creature had endured before finding safety.

Yet here's where Snickers' story transforms from tragedy to triumph. Despite everything life had thrown at him, this kitten chose joy.

He remained goofy, affectionate, and wonderfully silly. His spirit hadn't been broken—it had been forged into something stronger.

There's a particular magic in meeting a soul who has every reason to be bitter but instead greets each day with a purr.

Not long after Snickers settled in, Lori received word of another single kitten at the same shelter. Reeses arrived with a parallel story—covered in fleas, freshly treated, but still wearing the evidence.

Lori carefully combed away the flea dirt and remains, revealing a sweet kitten underneath. Where Snickers expressed his personality through playful antics, Reeses showed his through affection.

He wasn't just a cuddler; he was a professional biscuit-maker and blanket-suckler, approaching both activities with the dedication of a kitten who had found his life's calling.

The kittens couldn't meet immediately. Medical quarantine kept them in separate spaces, two cozy zones where each tiny resident remained unaware that their perfect companion lived just rooms away.

During this period, Lori discovered their unique personalities. Snickers proved to be an enthusiastic eater, devouring whatever appeared in his bowl without hesitation.

Reeses showed more discerning tastes, approaching meals with a connoisseur's careful consideration.

reeses 6

Throughout their care, Lori continued advocating for the countless other kittens waiting at the shelter—reminding her followers that Snickers and Reeses represented just two of so many lives needing foster homes and loving hands.

reeses 7

When quarantine finally lifted, magic happened. The introduction transformed Snickers' solitary playtime into shared adventures and gave Reeses the wrestling partner he'd been missing.

Lori suddenly had a tiny circus on her hands. The kittens became what she affectionately called "parrot kittens"—shoulder perchers and lap lovers who treated personal space as a purely theoretical concept.

They followed her everywhere, a pair of shadows with whiskers and tails, constantly seeking her company, constantly cuddling.

reeses 14

Just when everything seemed perfect, rescue work reminded everyone that setbacks often accompany success. Crusty spots appeared on Reeses' ears and behind them, looking suspiciously like ringworm.

Lori quickly documented the symptoms and contacted the vet. Reeses began treatment with antifungal medication, and Snickers joined him preventatively since exposure was inevitable.

It wasn't catastrophic—just another "it's always something" moment that experienced fosters know too well.

reeses 8

Treatment didn't slow their development. Snickers' floof grew more magnificent by the day, and he developed an endearing habit of following Lori everywhere while perfecting his own suckling and kneading techniques.

Reeses continued his biscuit-making masterclass and declared himself an expert in all things cuddly.

reeses 10

Gradually, healing arrived. The old wound on Snickers' shoulder faded to nothing. The ringworm cultures showed no growth after the first week—a promising sign that treatment was working.

Lori announced that Snickers was officially accepting adoption applications.

reeses 15

Interest poured in, but anyone who watched the two kittens together—wrestling, cuddling, climbing into Lori's lap in perfect synchronization—recognized that separating them would be heartbreaking.

The fear lingered that one might leave without the other.

reeses 9

Then came the ending every foster parent dreams of. Both kittens found their forever home together.

They moved into a house with sunny windows for bird-watching, comfortable spaces for napping, toys for their endless energy, and most importantly, each other.

reeses 11

Kittens like Snickers and Reeses often begin their lives alone, vulnerable, and frightened.

But sometimes fate intervenes, sending them not just a second chance but a best friend to share it with.

Their story—which started with hardship, grew through healing, and blossomed into love—continues now in a home where two tiny warriors finally found their peace, together.
