Jean Noy's life took an unexpected turn when she became the human companion to Gatsby, a unique cat who would later be known as the Galaxy Kitty.

The story began when Jean's neighbor, struggling with the loss of her son to substance use disorder, asked Jean to take in two kittens - Gatsby and his sister Daisy.

From the moment Jean laid eyes on them, she knew these felines were exactly what had been missing from her life.

Both kittens were shy and slightly underweight when they first arrived. Fortunately, Jean's pet rat, Oliver, played a crucial role in helping them adjust, acting as an unlikely nanny to the new arrivals.

Naming the kittens was a straightforward decision for Jean. Being a fan of "The Great Gatsby," she found the names Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan fitting for the dapper tuxedo cat and his feisty sister.

Little did Jean know that Gatsby's name would become even more appropriate as he developed his distinctive markings.

“He was a beautiful little tuxie, but I had no idea that he was going to develop these amazing markings,” shared Jean with We Love Cats and Kittens.

At five years old, Gatsby's appearance is truly remarkable, but his transformation didn't begin until he was about six months old. Jean had no inkling that her little tuxedo cat would develop such extraordinary markings.

During routine veterinary visits for initial vaccinations and neutering, no one mentioned anything about vitiligo, the rare genetic pigmentation condition that would soon make Gatsby stand out.

Vitiligo affects approximately 1% of humans worldwide and is even rarer in animals.

While it's occasionally seen in dogs and horses, it's particularly uncommon in cats, especially tuxedo cats like Gatsby.

Fortunately, the condition is purely cosmetic, and Gatsby remains a happy, healthy boy.

When the first star-like mark appeared on Gatsby's face, Jean initially tried to scrub it off, much to the cat's probable dismay.

The markings began on his face and gradually spread across his body.

Over the past four years, the changes have been so gradual that Jean sometimes finds it hard to recognize how much Gatsby's coat has transformed.

While Jean loves all her cats - Gatsby, Daisy, Stitch, Motley, Boo, Radley, and Goblin - Gatsby holds a special place in her heart.

His adoption coincided with Jean's own struggle with substance use disorder.

About a year after welcoming Gatsby into her life, Jean embarked on her journey to sobriety.

As Gatsby's fur began its remarkable transformation, Jean's life underwent its own positive metamorphosis.

Now four years sober, Jean draws a poignant parallel between the changing beauty of Gatsby's coat and the peace and beauty she's found in her own life.

"I have worked really hard and am four years sober,"shared Jean. "But I will always draw a correlation between the changing beauty of his coat and the peace and beauty in my life."

The worldwide interest in Gatsby has been both humbling and overwhelming for Jean.

He took the entire internet by storm after a video on his Instagram page went viral. The short clip gained more than 1 million likes and has captivated viewers worldwide ever since.

She appreciates the love and attention her unique cat receives and hopes that Gatsby's story can promote inclusivity and acceptance for humans who struggle with vitiligo.

Jean believes that our differences make us beautiful and special. She finds it wonderful that Gatsby can play a role in spreading this message, using his paw to make a positive impact on the world.

Through Gatsby's journey, Jean has discovered that sometimes, the most unexpected changes can lead to the most beautiful transformations, both in feline coats and in human lives.
