Some families are carefully planned. Others come together through chance, fate, or perhaps a little bit of divine intervention.
And then there are families like Hope's—born from compassion, a church parking lot, a black bag, and two cats who wouldn't dream of cuddling but somehow can't imagine life apart.
This is the story of Goose and Momo, two abandoned souls who found their way to forever.

A Goose in the Parking Lot
Goose's journey began in the most unlikely of places: a church parking lot. When Hope discovered him there one ordinary day, she did what any responsible person would do—she launched a full-scale search for his owner.
She tried everything, explored every avenue, hoping to reunite this handsome cat with his family. But nobody ever came forward.

What struck Hope most about Goose wasn't his predicament, but his demeanor. He wasn't frightened or defensive like most strays.
Instead, this confident little gentleman hopped right into her car without a second thought, as if he'd been expecting her arrival all along.
He was clean and well-groomed, more house cat than stray, as though he'd simply decided it was time for a new chapter in his life.

Hope brought him home, and Goose made himself comfortable immediately. He settled into his new life with remarkable ease, quickly earning a reputation for his prodigious appetite—hence the signature bib he sports at mealtimes.
His purr rivals the sound of a small engine, and he has a charming (if occasionally inconvenient) habit of weaving between Hope's legs at exactly the wrong moments.

Sweet-natured and affectionate, he answers to an impressive collection of nicknames: Goosetopher, Goosebump, Goosey Boosey, Goose Caboose, and Bumpshous, among others.
Life was good for Goose. But Christmas was coming, and with it, a gift neither he nor Hope anticipated: a little brother.

Momo's Miracle
If Goose's arrival was serendipitous, Momo's was nothing short of traumatic. Someone had stuffed this tiny kitten into a black bag and hurled him from a moving car near a construction site.
When construction workers spotted the bag, they assumed it was trash—until it moved. Opening it, they discovered a small, helpless life inside.

The construction site belonged to the father of Victoria, Hope's best friend. Knowing Hope's enormous heart for animals in need, Victoria didn't hesitate to call.
Without even seeing him first, Hope agreed to take the kitten in. That evening, when she finally opened the carrier and looked into his eyes, she experienced what she can only describe as a moment of recognition.
Their gazes locked, and she simply knew: this was her cat.

Miraculously, little Momo bore no physical injuries from his ordeal. He was just tiny and bursting with more energy than seemed anatomically possible for something so small.
Hope had planned a careful, gradual introduction to Goose, but Momo had other plans. This kitten zoomed around the house with such manic intensity that slow introductions became impossible.

Here's where Momo's story takes a bittersweet turn: despite being discarded in a bag, he developed an absolute obsession with them.
Any bag that enters the house becomes his latest fixation—paper, plastic, shopping bags, it doesn't matter. Hope and Dan simply toss them on the floor, and Momo entertains himself for hours.
It's as though he's reclaiming his story, transforming trauma into play.

But bags, Hope has learned, are a bad influence on Momo. They turn him into someone she barely recognizes, and inevitably, it's Goose who suffers the consequences of his little brother's bag-induced chaos.

The Real Momo
Momo's expression suggests he might not be the brightest bulb in the chandelier. With his goofy face and derpy demeanor, he looks charmingly simple. Don't be fooled.
This cat is brilliant. He can open doors and perform tricks Hope didn't know cats were capable of mastering. His intelligence far exceeds what his appearance would suggest.

Momo is also a cat of very specific standards. He's not judgmental—he'll always think you're perfect—but there's one sacred rule: chicken dinner must be served at precisely eight PM Eastern Daylight Time.
Not 7:59. Not 8:01. Eight o'clock sharp, or face the disappointed glare of one very punctual flamepoint Siamese.

He's also discovered the luxury of sink water, and Hope warns anyone considering this indulgence for their own cats: be prepared to schedule "uninterrupted sink time" into your daily routine.
As a kitten, Momo was even wilder than he is now, though his love of play hasn't diminished. In fact, he doesn't know his own limits.
He'll play so intensely that he pants like a dog, using it as a cooling mechanism during particularly vigorous sessions. After a brief rest, he's back at it again.

Momo melts when Hope speaks to him in a high-pitched baby voice—that's his love language. But when Dan tries the same approach? Momo finds it strange. That voice belongs to mama, not dad!

Brothers in Everything But Cuddles
The relationship between Goose and Momo is pure sibling energy. They'll squabble over a sunny spot one moment, then nap near each other the next.
Not cuddling, of course—that would require too much commitment. But they need to be in each other's vicinity, always aware of where the other one is.

Momo suffers from acute FOMO (fear of missing out) when it comes to Goose. Wherever his big brother settles, Momo suddenly decides that's exactly where he needs to be.
If Goose claims a spot, Momo marches over and evicts him, claiming the territory for himself. It's the quintessential little brother move.

Forever Family
From a church parking lot and a construction site to a home filled with love and ridiculous nicknames, Goose and Momo have found where they belong.
They've journeyed from unwanted to adored, from alone to inseparable brothers who drive each other crazy in the very best way.

These two rescue cats prove that second chances are real, and that sometimes the family we end up with is exactly the family we were always meant to have.
