What do you get when you cross a bunny, a T-rex, and a kangaroo?
The answer is Roux, an extraordinary cat who proves every single day that limitations exist only in the mind.

When Jackie first met Roux in October 2014, she encountered a six-month-old kitten unlike any other. Born without fully developed front legs—only her humerus bones had formed—and sporting an adorable bobtail, Roux was a tiny package of pure determination.
From that very first meeting, it was clear this little cat had no intention of letting her difference define her capabilities.

Roux moves through the world with the confidence of a cat twice her size. Her mom lovingly calls her "Bunny" because when she's in a hurry, she hops like a rabbit, her powerful hind legs launching her across rooms with surprising speed and grace.
When she's taking her time, investigating something that's caught her curious eye, she walks more deliberately, like a miniature dinosaur—a comparison made even more perfect by the natural T-shaped marking on her chest.

Her adaptations are nothing short of remarkable. Where most cats use their front paws to groom their faces, Roux has developed her own technique using her back paws.
Interestingly, she's exclusively left-pawed, always choosing her left foot for face-washing duties. The little limbs she does have, which Jackie affectionately calls "nubs," serve important purposes too.

Roux makes biscuits with them, scratches against surfaces, and even tries to bury her waste in the litter box, though Jackie always lends a helping hand with that particular task.
She's even mastered what her mom calls the "nub perch," finding just the right spots to rest them comfortably.

Play is where Roux's creativity truly shines. Since she can't bat toys around like other cats, she's become an expert at tossing them with her mouth instead.
Boxes are a particular favorite—the walls give her something to kick off, allowing her to somersault to her heart's content. Watching her play is watching pure joy in motion.

At home, Roux lives with her two four-legged older sisters, and she keeps pace with them without hesitation. She's playful, independent, and incredibly vocal.
According to Jackie, when Roux wants something, everyone in the house knows it. What she lacks in legs, she more than compensates for in sheer volume and personality.

As Roux approached her eleventh birthday this past April, Jackie marveled at how quickly the years had flown by. A decade of hopping, playing, and living life to the fullest.
Throughout it all, health has been a priority. Roux has been on joint supplements since she was six months old to protect her hips and spine, which bear extra stress from her unique way of moving.
Regular checkups and X-rays monitor for arthritis, and year after year, she's passed with flying colors.

But recently, their world was turned upside down. Late one night, Jackie noticed Roux was experiencing severe gastrointestinal distress and vomiting. Within hours, her condition spiraled, and they rushed to the emergency veterinary hospital.
By the next day, Roux had been transferred to a critical care unit at another hospital. She was in septic shock with blood pressure so low the medical team could barely detect it. For a terrifying stretch of time, Jackie wasn't sure if her beloved companion would survive.
A perfectly healthy cat had gone from normal to critical in just twenty-four hours, and no one knew why.

The veterinary teams at both hospitals, spanning two different cities, worked tirelessly. Slowly, miraculously, Roux began to improve. Finally, she came home.
Her appetite returned gradually, and though her energy was subdued at first—understandable after such an ordeal—the familiar spark returned day by day.
Before long, Roux was back to herself, lounging in cozy beds and popping out of her favorite log hideaway in her cat tree.

Jackie's gratitude was immeasurable. Gratitude for the veterinary professionals who saved Roux's life. Gratitude for everyone who sent kind words and contributed to her care fund. And overwhelming gratitude simply to have her precious girl home, to hug and love every single day.

Jackie has always been vocal about how adopting a special needs cat has enriched her life beyond measure. Animals with disabilities are too often overlooked in shelters, yet they have so much love to give.
She discovered that bringing a differently-abled animal into a caring home doesn't just change the animal's life—it changes yours too.

Over the years, Roux became an internet sensation. Her original account grew to an astonishing 600,000 followers before it was heartbreakingly stolen.
Starting over has been bittersweet, but the followers who have found their way back have been wonderfully supportive. For over a decade, Jackie has shared Roux's life online, striving to make her account a source of comfort and joy in an often harsh world.

Because Roux represents something greater than just an adorable cat with a unique way of moving. She's a powerful reminder that animals with disabilities deserve loving homes and can live full, joyful, meaningful lives.
She's proof that limitations are simply opportunities to adapt, and that the size of your heart matters infinitely more than the number of your legs.

After coming so close to losing her, every moment with Roux feels more precious than ever.
This confident, unstoppable superstar on two legs continues to teach everyone who follows her story that with determination, love, and a little creativity, anything is possible.
