Flea-Ridden Abandoned Kitten Rescued By Big Hearted Dog and Now They’re Inseparable

When Mel's mom was out walking her daughter's dog Penelope one day, they came across a tiny orange kitten that was abandoned in someone's front yard - she was crying out for help.
The sight tugged at their heartstrings, and there wasn't a moment of hesitation before deciding to bring the little furball into their lives, despite having no initial plans to expand their furry family.
Back at the house, Penelope, who was still in her playful puppy days, immediately took a shining to little kitten, now named Tangy.
Despite being a tad older, Penelope showed nothing but curiosity and eagerness to play, enveloping Tangy in a blanket of attention and care.
While witnessing this budding friendship, Mel was filled with a mix of joy and concern.
Integrating Tangy into the family meant ensuring the safety and happiness of all involved, a task they approached with love and dedication.
Tangy's arrival wasn't without its challenges, notably a flea problem that required immediate attention.
A bath was in order, not just for cleanliness but for the comfort and health of the entire household.
During this little spa session, Penelope's concern for Tangy was palpable, her eyes filled with worry as she watched over her new friend.
Mel could see that a deep bond already forming between them.
The adventure didn't stop there.
Tangy, with her spirited and bold nature, quickly made herself a central part of the family dynamic.
Her escapades, like magically escaping from a closet to the amusement and shock of Mel, only served to strengthen the resolve that she belonged with them.
This tiny, determined kitten showed resilience and a zest for life that was truly inspiring.
Recognizing the special connection between Penelope and Tangy Mel set up a cozy space for Tangy, complete with all the kitten essentials.
She could see that their interactions were blossoming into firm friendship.
Penelope's protective and loving gaze towards Tangy spoke volumes, and any initial worries about their interaction faded away, replaced by a sense of peace and happiness at seeing them together.
Kevin, a sweet dog that Mel had adopted a few years ago, might not have shared the same level of enthusiasm for energetic play, but his calm acceptance and gentle presence added to the warmth of their home.
"I knew that Kevin was not going to be as playful as I would have liked him to be with Penelope."
"He had previously gone through a lot of harsh moments in his life that didn't give him that opportunity for him to be a dog," shared Mel with We Love Cats and Kittens.
"So I said, okay, well, if Kevin can't play with Penny, then at least the cat will."
The decision to keep Tangy wasn't made lightly, but seeing the joy and companionship she brought to Penelope, and by extension to the whole family, made it clear that she was meant to be part of their lives.
As Tangy grew, her personality shone brightly. Known for their distinct traits, orange cats like Tangy often carry a reputation for boldness, and she was no exception!
Whether it was playful antics or sharing quiet moments of affection, watching Tangy and Penelope together was a constant source of endless entertainment and joy.
Their shared naps and playful tussles filled the house with laughter and love, proving that adding Tangy to the family had enriched all their lives.
Their daily routines evolved to include each other, with Tangy eagerly participating in treat times and showing an adorable knack for fitting right into the family's habits.
"So we're very happy that everybody gets along," concludes Mel.
"Everybody has a different way of showing their love language, but somehow it all works out."
Through patience, love, and a bit of humor, Mel's family found harmony in their diverse group of pets, each with their own personality and way of expressing love.
It shows us that opening our homes and hearts to those in need, can change everyone's lives for the better.
