Cats have always been our ‘go to’ happy place, we love to look at images of beautiful, well-cared for, happy kitties.

Sadly,  there are many cats and kittens out there, that due to no fault of their own lead very difficult lives.

They were either born, or left abandoned on the streets to fend for themselves.

Fortunately though, the world is full of caring people and a lot of them go out their way in the hope that they will give these neglected creatures the opportunity to lead a better life.

Among these caring people is Best Friends Felines, a rescue for cats and kittens all over Brisbane and coastal areas, and recently they got a call about a tiny kitten named Lulu.

Scroll down to discover her amazing story.

It all began when a local vet nurse contacted them about a tiny kitten that had been left at the clinic to be euthanized.

Sadly, all of her siblings had already passed away, but this nurse felt that if there was a glimmer of hope that she would survive then she surely deserved a chance at life.

The poor thing was extremely emaciated, full of hookworm and covered in fleas.

She was almost bald, this was because the baby kittens were so hungry they had started to eat each other’s fur hoping that that this would give them sustenance.

Lulu’s odds of surviving were not good, having been left to fend for herself her organs were starved and the fleas and worms had almost taken charge of her body.

She weighed less than 300 grams which was about half the bodyweight that she should’ve been for her age, so she clearly was in a terrible way.

Lulu may have been tiny, but the staff could see that she still had fight in her and a strong will to live.

“Lulu was one of those kittens that captured your heart instantly, not just because of her condition, but because she has the biggest personality, boldly confident and super outgoing.”

As soon as the fleas and worms were under control she started to improve. She was gaining weight and her fur began to grow back.

She adored all the humans that were around her and was always meowing for attention and cuddles.

Soon she was strong enough to go to a foster home and there she met a little kitten name Peach who was about the same age.

Peach had also had a rough start in life so it was no surprise that the two of them were instantly friends.

“It was almost a tear-worthy moment to see these two babies so failed by humans, the same age and so depleted from their start to life as they ran and greeted each other like long-lost friends and immediately started bopping each other and wrestling.”

It took quite a few months for Lulu to completely recover but eventually she given a clean bill of health and was ready to be put up for adoption.

And it didn’t take long for someone to fall in love with her. She instantly captured the heart of Reece and he decided that he wanted to be her forever human.

In no time at all, with all the love and care that she received, Lulu, now named Ciri, got bigger and her true personality began to shine through.

She became a complete purr machine and soaked up all the love and attention that everybody was giving her.

She had survived and had gone through an amazing transformation into a beautiful calico cat.

Ciri has a wonderful life with Reece and you can tell that all the affection she has came about because of those people that first cared for her when she most needed it.
