In this roundup test, we’re comparing and reviewing the best luxury cat beds for pampered kitties. We’re looking at fancy cat beds made with indulgent and higher-quality materials, with plenty of aesthetic appeal and incredible comfort designed to integrate with a modern home.

Of course, a lot of this comes down to personal preference. And, are we looking at luxury for your cat or what we humans think of as luxury?

Well, we’ve tried to cover both and pick luxurious cat beds that are sumptuous and luxuriant for your cat but also have a level of style and design that your average pet bed is missing.

We’re very aware that these are not cheap. In fact, several are downright overly expensive, but this is a group test of luxury pet beds, which means we’re blowing the budget. If your mind is blown over these prices, head to our cat bed section of the site, and you’ll find plenty of affordable cat beds in various group tests.

Back to this budget blow-out roundup!

We chose each item on our list based on a careful evaluation of the materials used, the features of the bed, and even how attractive the product might look in your home.

Luxury cat beds are fantastic when you want to give your feline friend an extra-special space where they can rest and relax.

They’re brimming with fantastic features, such as soft padding, a sturdy structure, and excellent durability. Many of these beds are also aesthetically appealing, with a unique design intended to look fabulous in any home.

With the help of our own furry friends, we’ve tested and evaluated some of the highest-rated boutique cat beds and a few cat furniture bed products to bring you this list of our top picks.

Let’s dive into our recommendations for your fancy cat owners.

1. Tuft And Paw Happy Camper Cat Bed (Best Overall)

Tuft And Paw Happy Camper luxury Cat Bed

Tuft and Paw make a range of designer luxury cat beds, cat trees, perches, and other high-end cat products. It’s all expensive, but it is all of the highest quality.

We chose the Happy Camper as our overall luxury cat bed winner because even though it is expensive, it is at the lower end of what you can pay (!!), and it undeniably shouts luxury.

It comprises seven reversible wood veneer panels with a felt finish on the other side. This folds into a teepee shape with a circular opening large enough for most cats.

The felt side is designed to allow scratching and to withstand that wear and tear. You choose which suits your home decor, and it’s easy to reverse when you feel like it.

Inside, this cat bed comes with a custom-fit faux fur cushion that our cats snuggled into very happily.

The teepee is open at the top so you can peek in to check on your pampered cat, and the gap between the panels is just enough so that your cat can keep one eye on what’s happening outside while feeling safe and secure inside.

Pros

  • Stylish design
  • High-quality materials and manufacture
  • Reversible felt and wood panels
  • Faux fur custom cushion
  • Scratch resistant felt

Cons

  • Expensive!

2. NANDOG PET Gear Crown Cat Bed (Best Budget)

NANDOG Pet Gear Crown Cozy Round Dog and Cat Bed Collection Washable Indoor Pet Bed for Small Breeds -Soft Bed Fits in Crate or Kennel - Made of Ultra Soft Micro-Plush Material (Grey)

Budget is a relative term when considering luxury pet beds, and, indeed, this NANDOG pet bed is still usually around $50. But, in this group test, it is one of the cheapest options you can still call luxury.

This luxury pet bed qualifies for the term because of the micro plush soft bed and because the crown shape is designed for the king or queen of the house! And although they are primarily a dog brand, this particular bed is very popular with cat owners.

The bed is made from a foam structure covered in soft plush, and the bed area has a very smooth, comfy feel. Thoughtfully, this is shipped boxed and not folded, so the crown shape should be preserved when it arrives.

It also comes in a range of colors to suit your home.

There’s plenty of internal padding to support your feline friend’s muscles and joints, and the raised sides are ideal for kitties with an anxious disposition who like to hide when they sleep.

At 16 inches in overall diameter, the internal bed area is around 15 inches (as the raised crown walls are only half an inch deep), so there is room for almost all cats up to approximately 16 pounds.

It’s entirely machine washable, and the quality of the materials means it will hold up to repeated washing and last well.

Pros

  • Unique crown design
  • Strong but comfy foam base
  • Cuddly micro-plush fabric
  • Small enough for compact spaces
  • Raised sides for anxious kitties

Cons

  • Unsubtle logo on front
  • Still pricey!

3. MiaCara Covo Cat Lounge (Best Premium)

MiaCara Covo luxury Cat Lounge

In our opinion, this is the most luxury cat bed in this group test.

MiaCara is a luxury pet brand that makes a range of products for cats and dogs, all from the highest quality materials and with great attention to detail.

Their Covo cat bed is the iconic design that created their reputation for innovation and a robust design aesthetic. The angled shape creates a space where your cat can feel protected and secure as they snuggle against the rear curved wall.

This bed is made from bent plywood, which gives it great strength and means it’s built to last. The wooden frame comes in three choices of wood finish.

The snug fit custom cushion is made from exceedingly soft foam, and the long thread faux Felpa sheepskin cover makes a very comforting bed but is easily removed and machine washable. In addition, it comes in a range of colors and alternative finishes.

The Covo is 24 inches in diameter, so it’s plenty big enough for all cats (or even two), but the way the rear wall angles forward means that your cat can still feel snuggled in even though there’s also plenty of room.

So this fancy cat bed is the best of both worlds!

Pros

  • Class-leading quality
  • High-quality bent plywood construction
  • Aesthetic modern design
  • Super comfortable faux sheepskin cushion
  • Range of wood veneers
  • Choice of colors

Cons

  • Very expensive!

Best Luxury Cat Beds: Alternative Picks

If the options above aren’t suitable for your kitty, we looked at various other options for you to explore. The following beds demonstrated exceptional quality, comfort, and durability during our tests. These beds are all luxurious for your cat and look fantastic for style-conscious pet owners.

4. Natural Braided Banana Leaf Elevated Cat Bed

PawHut Handwoven Elevated Cat Bed with Soft Cushion & Cat Egg Chair Shape, Cat Basket Bed Kitty House with Stand, Raised Wicker Cat Bed for Indoor Cats, 23.5' H, Gray

This stylish raised cat bed has the look of a designer piece of furniture for you rather than your cat! Note that you’ll find it in some places as the PawHut Banana Leaf Braided Cat Bed and in others it’s called the Archie & Oscar Esperanza. These are the same bed, so shop around for the best price.

The raised globe bed and its cylinder base are made of hand-woven water hyacinth leaves (not, in fact, banana leaf!) and comes in three sizes and two different color finishes.

The size of the globe part of the bed ranges from 12.75 inches in diameter to 20 inches for the small to large, and the medium is 16.5 inches. That means the small is suitable for cats smaller than 9 lbs, and the large is fine for cats up to around 15 lbs.

The medium is the sweet spot for most cats. Snug but with a little room to move around. Just note that PawHut describe their version by referring to the overall height, and not the diameter of the opening, so do just check all the measurements when buying.

The bed comes with a very soft removable and washable cotton cushion.

Before picking this stylish cat bed, you need to think about two things: the globe sits on the base. They are not attached, but we found that to be no issue and the whole thing was sturdy. Secondly, the woven leaves are too tempting for some cats!

If your cat is a real scratcher and chewer, there’s a chance they will chew and rip this bed to bits. It is strong, but if your cat repeatedly tries, it will damage it!

Nonetheless, it stands up to that quite well and remains looking stylish. We love it.

Pros

  • Very stylish woven natural materials
  • Three sizes and two colors
  • Soft cotton washable cushion
  • Durable and sturdy

Cons

  • Base and bed are not attached
  • Risk of cat damage!

5. Ziggy Stardust / Aladdin Sane Cat Bed

Ziggy Stardust Aladdin Sane Cat Bed

This felted wool cat cave is hand-made by a small producer and is our premium pick in our cat cave group test, so it earns its place in this luxury cat bed roundup.

Especially if you’re a David Bowie fan! Inspired by the cover of his Aladdin Sane album, this bed bears the distinctive lightning flash in red and blue that many people think of as his Ziggy Stardust look.

It makes for a striking design across the front of the cat bed, which is made even cuter by how the design mimics a cat’s head with two ears.

The construction from felted wood means that this bed is soft yet durable, temperature controlling, and also easy to keep clean as you can wash it in wool detergent.

It’s made to order (and you can even change the colors, but why would you?) and can be had in any of five sizes so you can ensure that your cat will fit (and the seller is very responsive to requests and will help you choose).

Our only caveats are the price (it isn’t cheap!) and the fact that the base is just the same thickness of felted wool, so you might need to throw a blanket in there as well for your kitty’s comfort.

Pros

  • Ziggy!
  • Unique and attractive design
  • Sturdy construction for long-term durability
  • Wool structure is durable and easy to clean
  • Great cave shape for anxious cats
  • Temperature regulating

Cons

  • Pricey!
  • No soft cushion

6. Napping JoJo Fluff Warm Moccasin Cat Bed

Napping JoJo Fluff Warm Moccasin Cat Bed

This super cute cat bed might just be our favorite cat bed in terms of luxury comfort for your cat.

It could be the perfect choice if they love to snuggle down in cozy materials and burrow away for security.

This bed is handmade by a small manufacturer and is clearly made to the very highest quality with a lot of love and attention to detail.

The materials are all vegan using faux suede for the outer and laces and faux sherpa for the lining. That means no animals were harmed in making this super comfy bed for your cat.

The bed has foam stuffing, the walls are sturdy enough to hold their shape, and a clever bentwood piece holds the tongue open over the ‘tunnel’ section.

The bed is suitable for most cats up to around 13 lbs, but the maker points out that suitability for your cat is more to do with their size rather than just their weight.

These moccasin cat beds can be had in any of four colors and are washable to keep them looking as good as new.

Pros

  • All vegan materials
  • Very comfy faux sherpa lining
  • Unique hideaway design
  • Handmade quality
  • Washable

Cons

  • May be too small for larger cat breeds

7. MiaCara Velluto Cat Bed

MiaCara Velluto Cat Bed

A second luxury cat bed from our premium pick maker, MiaCara.

They bring the same attention to detail and very high-quality materials and manufacturing to this bolster-style pet bed which gets its shape and comfort from high-quality open-cell foam. The four bolsters and separate cushions are removable and fully washable, along with the cover.

The cover is a super fine velour fabric that is very soft to the touch and also designed to resist trapping cat hair, making it easy to keep clean.

The foam bolsters and cushion are incredibly soft but also provide orthopedic support.

The Velluto cat bed has three color options in one size at 40cm square, but MiaCara makes larger sizes for dogs that would suit larger cat breeds. They also offer a matching blankets in the same colors.

This is a luxury cat bed in the truest sense of the word, and your cat will thank you!

Pros

  • High-quality foam cell bolsters and cushion
  • Orthopedic support
  • Super soft velour fabric
  • Fully machine washable

Cons

  • A touch small for large cats

8. D+GARDEN Wicker Cat Bed

D+GARDEN Wicker Cat Bed Dome for Medium Indoor Cats - a Covered Cat Hideaway Hut of Faux Rattan Houses Pets in Dome Basket, Washable

This resin-coated wicker cat bed is built around a metal frame to hold the domed shape. The treated wicker means it is highly durable, cat scratch-resistant, and easy to clean.

It, therefore, doesn’t have that slight risk that the Esperanza bed above has of being damaged by your cat.

The bed is 18 inches deep and 19.5 inches wide, and 12.5 inches high, with a 13-inch circular opening that makes it large enough for pretty much any cat.

The design is inspired by a bird’s nest and gives a sense of shelter for your cat but also plenty of visibility outside.

This luxury cat bed has a plush cushion several inches deep, which is extremely soft and comfortable.

Pros

  • Hooded dome design
  • Robust construction
  • Resin wicker for durability and easy clean
  • Deep plush cushion included
  • Large enough for almost all cats

Cons

  • Slight color variations possible

9. Tuft and Paw Stellar Cat Bed

Tuft and Paw Stellar Cat Bed

This luxury cat cave bed comes from the same maker as our overall pick and shows the same very high quality standards of design and manufacture.

It’s not a cheap option, but it is beautifully made of the highest quality materials and is a design-conscious choice that could match modern home decor.

This designer cat bed is made from a breathable yarn and resin mix in the shape of a sphere with a single round opening. The sphere rests on a platform made of powder-coated steel in a matt brass finish. It’s held in place by a weighted sandbag, and inside there’s a luxurious cat bed covered in faux fur and suede.

The sphere allows air to pass through the semi-rigid shell, and the removable, washable bed is shaped to fit the sphere snugly.

This cave-style luxury cat bed is designed to be highly comfortable and to provide a secure space for your cat.

Although the price is high, Tuft and Paw do list the costs of their raw materials on their site to explain where your money goes.

Pros

  • Unique luxury design
  • Fits with contemporary interior design
  • Very high-quality materials and build
  • Very comfortable and secure

Cons

  • Costly!

10. MYZOO Spaceship Gamma Cat Bed

MYZOO Spaceship Gamma, Pet Bed for Cat & Dog, Window Perch, Cat Tree, Made of Wood (Oak, Open Left)

MyZoo has created a whole ‘Spaceship’ range of beautifully designed cat beds, and this one is intended to be fixed to the wall so that your cat can lie inside and watch through the bubble window.

You can also use it freestanding on the floor positioned, so the dome becomes a lookout on top.

This Gamma cat bed is made from walnut or oak and has an acrylic viewing dome and four air holes to allow air to circulate.

They come with either a left or right opening, depending on where you intend to site your cat perch. It is, without a doubt, the best luxury cat bed that doubles as a perch!

This pawsome cat perch allows your cat to both hide and watch from on high, in line with their most deep-seated jungle instincts.

The bed does not come with any cushion, so you'll have to add one to give your cat the full luxury comfort experience.

Pros

  • The most stylish cat perch money can buy?
  • Beautifully made from high-grade wood
  • Wide-angle acrylic viewing dome
  • Sturdy wall-mounted design

Cons

  • Cushion not included

11. WoollyCloud Chunky Knit Merino Cat Bed

WoollyCloud Chunky Knit Merino Cat Bed

Here’s another luxurious option for your cat, handmade by a small independent manufacturer.

It’s a straightforward basket-style design made from knitting thick yarn threads of 100% merino wool.

That means that it has all the moisture control properties of merino wool and its softness and comfort.

It also means it has the cost of using merino wool!

The maker offers this chunky knit bed in a whole range of sizes from 14 inches in diameter up to 22 inches, which will be large enough for almost any cat. 16 to 18 inches is about right for most cats (but message the maker, who is very happy to advise!).

The bed is also available in an extensive range of colors, so you can pick precisely what you’d like to get the perfect fancy cat bed for your kitty.

As with a merino garment, you can hand wash or dry clean it to keep it in perfect condition. The only issue is that the shape is unsupported, so that the sides can lose some of their form over time.

We rate this very highly and can just feel the snuggly joy your cat will get from it!

Pros

  • 100% merino wool
  • Handmade quality
  • Large range of sizes
  • Huge range of colors
  • Washable

Cons

  • Lacks a bit of rigidity

12. PawHut Weaved Elevated Cat Bed

PawHut 20.7' Weaved Cat Bed, Elevated Hand-Woven Braided Banana Leaf Kitten House Condo with Cushion, Natural

Our third rattan or wicker-style cat bed is another designer option for your pampered kitty.

This sphere is covered in wicker-look hyacinth leaves and has a metal frame and legs to ensure the sturdiness and stability of the design. The weave is quite thick making for a snug place for your cat to hang out, but at the same time there are plenty of small gaps to allow air to flow for ventilation.

The bed is 20.5 inches wide and just over 22 inches high. The wide circular opening, at 15 inches in diameter, is roomy enough for any cat and is approximately 4 inches off the floor.

Inside there’s a very squidgy and soft cotton polyester cushion, but note that this is stated to not be washable, which we found quite odd.

We didn’t test it but it looks like it would survive a gentle machine was even though the cover is clearly not removable.

Pros

  • Stylish spherical design
  • Strong metal frame
  • Wrapped in wicker and seagrass
  • Deep soft cushion
  • Large airy opening

Cons

  • Cushion not washable

13. The Refined Feline Kitty Ball Cat Bed

Pawhut 28' Hooded Rattan Wicker Elevated Cat Bed - Coffee/Beige

The final fancy cat bed also features in our modern cat bed round up and is another wicker design.

This PawHut round wicker bed comes in two colors, so you can get the perfect match for your home decor. The bed gives your kitty some excellent elevation, so they can enjoy a kip in a high, private space. Additionally, all of the components are made with durable materials, for fantastic longevity against cat claws

An iron wire basket is covered with a strong plastic rattan and the cylindrical base ensures stability for any cat weighing up to 10 lbs. The structure of the “pod” style bed is also great for kitties who like sleeping in a contained area where they have the protection of all sizes.

This bed also comes with a soft, removable, and machine-washable cover.

Pros

  • Cozy and breathable design
  • Elevated to help cats regulate their temperature
  • Durable and sturdy
  • Two colors to choose from
  • Large airy opening

Cons

  • Beautiful pod-style bed with removable cushion

Buyer’s Guide to Luxury Cat Beds

As any pet parent will know, there’s no one-size-fits-all strategy for purchasing the ultimate cat bed.

Some kitties will be drawn to flatter beds, where they can stretch out and roll around easily.

Other cats prefer circular-shaped beds, which allow them to curl up into a warm ball of fur. Here are some of the points worth considering when you’re choosing a luxury cat bed:

  • Style: When choosing a luxurious cat bed, it’s worth looking for something that perfectly matches your style. You can find beds in a range of colors and designs to suit your personal tastes. However, it’s also worth thinking about your cat’s preferences. For instance, you might choose cat cave-style beds for a more anxious cat or a self-warming bed for kitties to stay comfortable during the winter. There are also orthopedic beds for cats with joint problems and elevated beds for those who like to sleep in higher positions.
  • Size: The size of your cat bed should be determined based on your knowledge of your cat and space. A bed that’s too small could cause a larger cat to ignore it. Make sure you know how much weight a bed can hold. This will protect your kitty from accidents if certain parts of the bed break down under more significant amounts of weight. Your ideal bed should fit your cat and space perfectly.
  • Material: There are various material options to choose from in today’s cat bed market. You could choose something simple, like cotton or corrugated cardboard. Or you might be drawn to a bed with a faux fur finish, which mimics the comfort your cat would get from snuggling up with its parents. Make sure the material is durable and resistant to water and stains.
  • Price: Luxury cat beds are generally (a lot) more expensive than their simple counterparts because they’re made from higher quality materials to a better standard and also include additional features and design elements. With this in mind, you should usually expect to spend a little more on this type of cat bed. However, there are more affordable options out there for those with a limited budget. Make sure you do your research into the kinds of prices you can expect to pay for different types of beds.
  • Easy to wash: Just like our own beds, cat beds are exposed to regular sources of dirt and stains. If you want your bed to look fantastic and feel great for your kitty for as long as possible, it’s a good idea to ensure it’s easy to clean. A kitty bed with a waterproof cover will be easy to wipe down regularly. Alternatively, you can look for an option with a removable and machine-washable cover.
  • Durability: As mentioned above, the best cat beds should be strong enough to stand the test of time. Make sure your chosen bed is made with high-quality materials resilient against damage and deterioration. You should get an insight into how durable a bed is by reading the available reviews associated with a product.
  • Multifunctional design: Some cat beds can have various practical purposes, depending on their design. For instance, you might choose a cat bed that doubles up as furniture for your living room or bedroom. There are also beds that can offer additional benefits for cats, like built-in scratching posts, storage sections, and toys.
