Meet Morpheus the cat, a namesake of the Greek god of dreams!

But this is not the only reason why this name suits him well.

This pretty fluffball morphed from a very sick, semi-feral stray cat into a happy couch potato that he is today.

This charming long-haired orange cat was discovered wandering the streets and seeking comfort on a bed of leaves.

Despite his rough appearance and obvious need for medical care, he remained calm when a few concerned neighbors provided him with food and water.

They decided to contact Little Wanderers NYC, an animal rescue group that focuses mainly on the Bronx, and a plan was put in place to bring Morpheus to safety.

Though initially shy and nervous around people, Morpheus didn't flee, it was as if he knew they were there to help him.

After spending years exposed to the elements, this furry feline finally had a chance to leave the streets behind and embrace the comforts of a foster home.

They soon discovered that Morpheus was suffering from an eye condition called eyelid entropion, which left him half-blind and in pain.

With the help of his carers, the healing process began.

Bit by bit, he started to open his beautiful eyes. But soon it became clear that they wouldn't heal without a surgery.

Thankfully, the surgery at the Animal Medical Center went well and the little lion was on his road to recovery.

Despite his difficult start in life, Morpheus was a survivor and had a lot of love to give.

And thanks to the care of an experienced foster volunteer, Morpheus was able to relax and decompress in a quiet, safe space, where he was given all the food and soft things he needed.

After months of recovery and socialization, Morpheus was finally ready to find his forever home.

Once again, he got lucky. A kind lady from Vancouver, WA, who had previously adopted from Little Wanderers, now wanted him too!

Soon enough, he made a cross-country journey to his new home. There he met his human mom Monica, and his new furry siblings.

Triscuit, also a rescue from Little Wanderers, instantly became his playmate and best pal!

Now Morpheus spends his days basking in the comfort of his new home, surrounded by his feline siblings and adoring new owners.

Morpheus' sweet and playful nature soon won the hearts of his mom and everyone else who ever met him.

"I've never seen such a happy cat at play or at rest. He smiles while dreaming! When he plays and pounces about, he's pure joy." shared Monica with We Love Cats and Kittens.

"He is always prancing around with his luxurious tail in the air singing his song of chirps and trills,” she added.

He may still be a bit shy around humans, but he is an "eager greeter and attentive supervisor" according to his loving mom.

Recently, Morpheus has been showing more and more interest in snuggles, especially when his best friend Triscuit is getting some cuddles from their mom.

"He watches intently when Triscuit sits on my lap enjoying snuggles," said Monica. "So I’m hopeful someday he will welcome snuggles too."

There's one other thing that stirs his attention, food! Morpheus can't resist!

And during his dinner time, he will even let his mom touch his orange tufted toes!

But even if he never becomes a lap cat, it's fine!

"He is free to remain a sweet spirit cat that doesn’t need humans to enjoy life," says Monica.

morpheus 15

"I’m so grateful he was rescued, I can’t imagine him struggling to survive before his rescue and living in constant pain before his surgery.

He is always playing like he doesn’t have a worry in the world, just what he deserves after such a painful beginning."

Despite his rough start in life, Morpheus has become a happy, healthy, and much-loved member of his new family.

Everybody a Little Wanderers NYC did an amazing job in giving Morpheus the chance of a better life.

Their mission is continuous as there are many cats living on the streets that need love and attention:

“We are on the front lines of the rescue battle everyday and we focus mainly in the Bronx. The Bronx is the second poorest congressional district in the nation. Poverty and the severe lack of resources affect animals in a direct way - they don’t receive food and care. We are struggling to meet the needs of a struggling population.”
