The Backpacking Cat Who Travels The US With His Human

This adventurer has found the perfect travelling purr-tner – his house cat.

Adventurer and filmmaker, JJ Yosh, resides in Boulder, Colorado with his black cat Simon. He adopted Simon two years ago and they have been travelling together across land and water ever since – with Simon normally nestled in his backpack.

Simon is a cat that just loves the outdoors and will sense when JJ is preparing for a field trip and gets excited in anticipation.

As this cat dad admits, cats love nature and when JJ heads towards the door, Simon looks up and gives a little meow to ask if he’s headed out, telling JJ that he’s ready to go too.

Simon loves the outside so much that JJ has even made a crate of grass for him so that he gets his dose of outdoor fun even when they’re indoors.

Once they get outside Simon mostly rides on the top of JJ’s backpack. Maybe JJ will take the plunge and get Simon his own backpack cat carrier!

This kitty has done it all, long cross-country road trips, visits to the desert and wandering in the forest.

Sometimes JJ finds himself with Simon riding on his shoulder – on those days he just doesn’t fancy a walk under his own steam.

But that’s not all….

Simon is one of those rare cats who takes to the water like a duck. JJ says that he was terrified the first time that his kitty jumped right into the lake, but Simon’s instincts came straight to the fore and ever since he’s loved swimming.

This is one amazing outdoor kitty who loves any trip in the outdoors with his hiking cat dad. And JJ tells us that Simon’s love of the outdoors has made JJ himself far more in tune with nature and the glory of the natural world.
