Japan can be a great holiday destination, it’s rich in culture, history and has amazing scenery.
If like me, you’re a huge cat lover, you should definitely head over to Nyan Nyan Ji in Kyoto.
When translated into English, Nyan Nyan Ji literally means Meow Meow Shrine.
There you will find the cutest monks on the planet and they’re all cats!
If you’re one of the lucky ones and manage to visit the Nyan Nyan cat shrine, you’ll be greeted by the current cat monk named Koyuki.
But he’s not the only cat you’ll come across, there are plenty of cat assistants there too.
“Visitors who come to worship play with cats and enjoy cafes and cat art,” said Koyuki’s owner.
There are currently seven cats working in the cat shrine:
Koyuki (female), Waka (male), Chin (male), Aruji (mallle), Ren (female), Konatsu (female), and Chicchi (female).
Koyuki, the adorable white cat monk, is the most popular feline at the temple.
Yuki isn’t the first cat monk to occupy the place of honor in the temple: there are already three generations of feline monks.
The incredible cat shrine has been open since 2016 and they now have three generations of feline monks all with very important jobs – one of which is making sure all the visitors are happy!
And if you get peckish you can pay a visit to the temple cafe and order some well presented, cat-themed food and drink.
“Visitors who come to worship, play with cats and enjoy cafes and cat art,” explained Koyuki’s human.
The shrine is rammed with loads of cat statues, cat drawings and cat crafts.
And if you see something takes your fancy, you can probably purchase it as a souvenir in the gift shop.
If you are thinking of planning a trip to Japan in the near future, the Meow Meow Shrine is at this address: 520 Yasekonoecho, Sakyo-Ku, Kyoto 601-1253, Kyoto Prefecture, Japan.
Oooh, and send me a postcard!
